Kit arrived quickly. The directions were very well written and easy to follow. I had my kit assembled in about an hour. I am using it to control components in my living room from my bedroom. I already had 2 conductor cable between the 2 rooms that was not currently being used. I attached the receiver to the end of the cable in the bedroom and the transmitter on the other end in the living room and am now able to control my components from 50 feet away in another room. I was also able to set the receiver box pointed up behind my wall mounted LCD and it still picks up the IR signal very well and is hidden from view. The only other thing that you need to keep in mind is that you will have to furnish your own power supply. Most people that would be putting one of these together probably have an old wall wart in a box somewhere. You can use either a AC or DC supply. I am very pleased with this IR extender and would highly recommend it as long as you are not afraid to get out your soldering iron and put it together.

You get the satisfaction of building it yourself.

I use it to relay the remote for my Media Center PC which is in another room from the HD TV.

Works great and I do not have to have another wireless (radio frequency) item to compete with my wireless phone, wireless keyboard and mouse, wireless internet etc.

Comes as a kit that is simple and easy to put together; takes maybe 30 to 45 minutes. It works great. The only thing extra you will need is an external power supply.

  4. John Paul says:

The instructions are easy to follow and everything is included in the kit.

I was looking for a solution to controlling home entertainment equipment without having to open the doors protecting them. I knew there had to be a product out there somewhere. After visiting several high-tech stores and finding expensive solutions that weren’t exactly what I wanted, I searched Amazon and found this. I was looking for wired, not wireless as I only needed to migrate the IR remote signal a few feet within the home theater unit.

I was able to assemble and test this kit in less than an hour, and everything worked perfectly. The case is simple and professional looking, and doesn’t draw attention sitting in an open spot on our unit.

My only suggestion for improvement would be to offer the “wall wart” type power supply as an upgrade to your Amazon purchase, else you can pick up a universal variable voltage DC supply with assorted plugs at Radio Shack for about $10.

    All in all I’m delighted.
