Item Description

Intended for people at great distances from the transmitters, the DB8 is our most powerful multi-directional HD antenna. In fact, its 15.8 dB gain make it one of the most powerful multi-directional antennas available. The bow tie design of the DB8 uses triangular elements instead of rods to greatly increase the bandwidth allowing it to cover the entire UHF band. Additionally, the mesh reflector of the bowtie is more efficient than a rod reflector, is lower in weight, and provides less wind resistance for greater performance and durability. This DB8 is the ideal antenna for use in locations that can pull long range signals from various directions and offers an attractive alternative to using a directional antenna mounted on a rotator.

I bought this antenna, first for experimental reasons and then possibly to intall permanately. I live in a fringe situation and when OTA (over the air) HDTV digital transmission replaced the analog transmissions, my OTA reception went to pot.

The DB8 is small enough to allow me to haul it around my hilly and wooded property to find the best spot for a permanate installation. I also bought an inexpensive portable 7″ HDTV to use as a signal strength meter. The concept works well. My personal problem is that the best spot by far is 1000 feet from my house (highest spot and no trees blocking the signal).

The DB8, at the best spot, picks up, with high signal strength, my usual stations that are over 40 mi away. One of them is off the pointing axis by 20 degrees but still pegs the meter and another one is 100 degrees off axis and unbelievably pegs the meter (no rotator needed). The DB8 also picked up my only hi VHF station (211 mHz) and picked up several stations I’ve never received before, one being about 100 mi away.

The DB8 mounted 30 ft below my old hi gain antenna on a 70 ft tower performed as well as the old antenna but with the bonus of not being nearly as directional. But this location is not ideal, so will definatly relocate.

The assembly directions were almost nonexistent. But it can be pretty much figured out from the picture on the box. Reception is better than any other antenna I have ever had up. I am about 60 miles away from the stations I am receiving.

I recently bought a DB8 trying to get an improved signal over the cheap Walmart RCA antenna I bought a year ago. What a mistake I made. The Walmart antenna pulled in 18 channels, now I get 6. The DB8 is listed as multi directional, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The Walmart antenna was pointed between two cities about 60 miles away and worked reasonably well. I now have to point the DB8 at only one city to get any basic signal strength. I sofar am very unhappy with the DB8, however I will try to raise it, relocate it and a few other tricks before I go back to my Walmart cheepie. I would caution anyone buying this antenna.

Good antenna receives all the local Hd channels in my area( Vancouver BC). Looks good and easy to install.

  5. Peter Tran says:

This DB8 was number 6th that I had bought from Amazon. It worked very well and some of the stations are more than 60 miles away. I normally received from 65 – 79 stations with about 80 -90% signal on most of the channels. It was very easy to install and I really liked this antenna.
